Green IT
For every dollar spent on computer hardware another 50 cents is spent on energy — and that figure is projected to rise to at least 71 cents by 2011 according to IDC. Business and IT are engaged in a symbiotic relationship to strive toward a greener enterprise that will decrease waste entering the environment, and at the same time, reduce cost to the bottom line.
“Greening” the enterprise goes far beyond reducing the datacenter footprint, lowering power consumption or employing virtualization. A green enterprise is a top down, company wide investment of direction to reclassify storage policies, integrate cloud computing, reduce storage utilization, and realigning database source and transaction. It’s about realigning policies to reduce hardware that will reduce the footprint a company leaves behind.
